Career Highlights:

Though he's been selected to the US Olympic team for the third time, Martin is set to make his long-awaited Olympic debut. The 10-year NHL veteran was an injury replacement for the 2006 Turin Games and did not see any action, and he missed Vancouver 2010 because of a broken left forearm. Martin is again has dealt with an injury, this time a broken leg that has kept him out from late November until his return Jan. 20. "It was a little nerve-racking," Martin said of waiting to hear his name called as a member of the team. However, Team USA coach Dan Bylsma - Martin's coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins - along with general manager David Poile didn't pass on adding Martin's veteran presence. Offensive minded yet solid in his own end, Martin is effective on the power play, recording 15 goals and 84 assists with the man advantage in his career. He also boasts a plus-86 rating in 617 NHL games, an indication of his well-rounded game. Possessing good size, Martin was also selected in part for his mobility, a necessity for defensemen on the larger ice surface used in international competition. Martin is capable of delivering workhorse minutes and along with fellow Penguins teammate and defensive partner Brooks Orpik, will be counted on to provide stability for a defensive corps on which five of the eight members will be 25 or younger. He has represented the United States four times in international competition, in 2001, '04, '05 and '08.
