(TSX / STATS) -- SAN DIEGO -- Washington Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer was scratched from his start against the San Diego Padres on Friday night with a sore neck.

Scherzer (12-5) arrived at Petco Park earlier than usual to try and loosen his neck, according to Nationals manager Dusty Baker. The two-time Cy Young Award winner informed Baker about three hours before the game that he couldn't go.

Scherzer, who was placed on the disabled list, was replaced by southpaw Matt Grace.
